Founded in 2010, Venture Café New England is a nonprofit organization that seeks to grow New England’s innovation community by working to make it more inclusive, accessible, and better connected locally, nationally, and globally.

Venture Café began in 2010 as an experiment by the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) to test a simple hypothesis: if we bring together innovators and entrepreneurs to engage in spontaneous conversations and semi-curated programming, they’ll come up with never-before-imagined innovations to make the world a better place and generate economic growth. And, it’s working. Read our full global story. Venture Café Foundation continues to build a vibrant innovation community in New England through its four locations: Venture Café CambridgeDistrict Hall BostonRoxbury Innovation CenterVenture Café Providence (Summer 2019) and StartHub.org.

District Hall Providence is the result of a collaborative public-private partnership. When the State of Rhode Island announced the vision for the Innovation and Design District, Wexford Science and Technology responded with a plan to develop a multi-building innovation campus. Out of that plan emerged a desire to create a gathering space for innovators to get together, and share ideas.

The Building at 225 Dyer Street was publicly funded by the State of Rhode Island and built by Wexford. The State and Wexford asked the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) to create an innovation hub within the building. CIC helped to establish this hub, provided the initial design, and oversaw construction.  CIC acts as the property manager for the building.  CIC worked with Rhode Island officials to develop funding programs for District Hall Providence and holds the lease for the space.  The Venture Café Foundation was also involved in the District Hall space design and now manages the space.

Venture Café Foundation is a member of a growing global network of organizations – each with a shared mission and local flare.
